ATTRACTIONS

In the Municipality of Gera, one can find traditional buildings and old mansions of stunning architecture, such as the Vrana building which houses the current municipality in Papado. Remarkable sections of the frescoes of the famous painter Theophilos are preserved in very good condition in an old oven in Mesogiro. The fountains that adorn the squares of the villages are also valuable monuments, such as the Turkish marble fountain in Papado and the Arabic-style fountain in Mesogiro. Also in Mesogiro there is a mosque in very good condition. The churches of the villages are also valuable, most of which were built during the Ottoman period. The characteristic carved wooden basilica of Skopelos is preserved in good condition under the church of the early Christian catacombs. In Skopelos there is a Turkish school building which has recently been converted into a guesthouse. Significant remains of a prehistoric settlement have been found in the area of "Halaches". It is very likely that the "Holy City" was located at this point, which according to Pliny was a secondary village of Aeolian Lesbos. Archaeological finds have also been found in the area of "Manna". What remained of the ancient settlements is still coming to the surface today along the entire length of the coast of the Gulf.

NATURE

However, the most beautiful monument of nature, and one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, is the Gulf of Gera. It is the soul and breath of Gera. The life of the inhabitants was and is connected to it. The mouth of the gulf towards the sea, similar to a fjord, has a magical view with the small islands standing like lookouts in the channel, and the silvery olive trees reaching to the waves. The beaches and the very small coves that exist both inside the gulf and on the side that is washed by the Aegean Sea are of infinite beauty. The most beautiful and most developed of all is Tarti, which has crystal clear waters and is located at the foot of a verdant hill. Every summer it is flooded by thousands of tourists who enjoy fresh fish at the picturesque fish taverns. The coves "Tsili", "Ligonari", "Tsafi", "Fara" and "Yaliottissa" are also magical.

BEACHES

The beaches "Euryiaki" and "Tarti" have been participating in the International Programme "BLUE FLAGS OF EUROPE" since 1996. The "Blue Flag" is an international symbol of quality. It is perhaps the most well-known environmental label and has been awarded since 1987, every year, in 38 countries around the world, to beaches and marinas that meet strict criteria. It is not enough for the beaches to have clear sea. A total of 27 criteria must be met, which refer to the quality of swimming waters, organization, information, safety of bathers and visitors and protection of the coastal environment and the coastal area. The International Coordinator of the Programme is the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). In Greece, the program's carrier, since 1992, is the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF), the oldest environmental organization in the country (website: eepf.gr).

ENTERTAINMENT

Perama offers the most options for nightlife. Picturesque tavernas with traditional cuisine, bars that are buzzing with young people. There are two hotel units in the area of Euryia, as well as several rented rooms where visitors can stay.

In addition to the natural beauty of the area, the Municipality of Gera has a long and rich historical and cultural heritage. It is worth visiting.
